CASPER, Wyo. — A Wyoming police officer is in critical condition following a shootout with a suspect Sunday.
KDVR reported that Casper officers responded to a call and engaged in an exchange of gunfire upon arrival. Police said an officer was struck by gunfire and was taken to a hospital, where he’s currently in critical condition.
Police confirmed that officers fatally shot the suspect, according to the Casper Star-Tribune. Details about the original call or the sequence of events leading up to the shooting were not released.
Casper Police Chief Keith McPheeters said in a statement that the department is receiving assistance from several agencies to help cover “our public safety needs.”
“As everyone might imagine, this is a very emotional situation and the agencies have agreed to help us take our calls,” Chief McPheeters said.
The identity of the officer as well as the suspect has not yet been released.
