VIDEO: Georgia Officer Trades Punches with Resisting Suspect
A “viral video” of an Atlanta police officer trading punches with a suspect during a drug arrest in southwest Atlanta earlier this month has prompted an internal investigation.
The three-minute video shows the altercation between the unidentified officer and suspect Harold Barnwell, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
The officer was attempting to arrest Harold Barnwell, who had led police on a pursuit in his Dodge Charger. At one point in the chase, Barnwell collided with another vehicle and abandoned his car, fleeing on foot. The officer spotted the subject, and during the attempted arrest, got into a physical altercation with the resisting subject.
“We are aware of the video and the complaint filed with our Office of Professional Standards,” the department said in a statement.
