LIBERTY HILL, Texas — A Texas sheriff’s deputy was conducting K-9 training when he suffered a fatal heart attack, ODMP reported.

Deputy Sheriff Mark A. Cox was a Navy veteran who had already worked in law enforcement for five years prior to joining the Real County Sheriff’s Office in 2015.

Deputy Sheriff Mark Cox suffered a fatal heart attack while conducting canine training in Liberty Hill. Deputy Cox was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with the Real County Sheriff’s Office for three years. @ODMP Thank you for your service, Deputy Cox. RIP

Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody memorialized Cox on Twitter by posting a photo of the LEO in uniform with a caption that read, “Thank you for your service, Deputy Cox. RIP.”

Cox is survived by his wife and two children.
