Each job classification within the Department has an established list of essential functions that guides employees, supervisors, and managers in defining the job, outlining performance expectations, and determining compensation. Management, Human Resources, and health care professionals use those essential functions as the basis for determining whether employees are capable of performing the duties specified for the job classification.
This policy applies to employees who have been deemed unable to perform the essential functions of the job classification.
This policy does not apply to employees who can perform the essential functions of the job classification but require a reasonable accommodation to do so. These employees are covered under the provisions of 42 U.S.C. § 12111–12117, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.
