An off-duty San Antonio police officer is expected to survive after he was shot six times in a possible road rage incident late Tuesday night. He underwent surgery Wednesday morning.
The San Antonio Police Department says the incident began around 9:30 p.m. along Interstate 10 on the city’s northwest side. SAPD Chief William McManus says it started as an altercation on the highway when a 25-year-old man thought an off-duty officer cut him off.
The two drivers pulled into the AllStars Gentlemen’s SportsClub and got out of their vehicles. McManus told KXAN that’s when the 25-year-old driver pulled out a gun and shot the off-duty officer six times.
Police say the off-duty officer was able to make his way back to his car where he grabbed his gun and returned fire, hitting the other driver twice and grazing a female passenger in the other car.
All three people are expected to survive.
The other driver is expected to face charges.
