AHPA Supports Spousal Benefits Bill – H.B. 2204
Families of fallen officers & firefighters not forgotten
House Bill 2204 helps clarify language that provides health care benefits to families that have lost a police officer or firefighters in the line of duty. Sgt. Jimmy Chavez, the Arizona Highway Patrol Association (AHPA) and Arizona Police Association (APA) President signed in supporting this bill on behalf of the police employees and families he represents. The bill was heard today at 9am before Arizona’s House of Representatives Public Safety, Military and Regulatory Affairs Committee.
“Heroes have paid the ultimate sacrifice, and less red tape is needed to support the families of fallen police officers and firefighters,” states Sgt. Chavez.
According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (www.nleomf.org), 251 Arizona peace officers have been killed in the line of duty since the statehood. Twenty-eight (28) heroes lost their lives from Arizona’s Department of Public Safety (DPS).
AHPA & APA signed in for support of the bill.
The AHPA appreciates the efforts of Representative Bob Robson and the other sponsors for their support of HB 2204. Information about the bill can be found at here: HB 2204
