Multiple people called 911 to report a domestic disturbance involving a man holding a woman to the ground and threatening her with a knife.

Louisville Metro Police arrived on scene, and when the man refused commands to drop the weapon, at least one officer opened fire, “to protect the woman’s life,” said Chief Steve Conrad.

According to a report by the Courier-Journal, the man was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he later died.
