A police dog with the Portage (IN) Police Department has been removed from duty after it reportedly attacked and killed a Yorkshire Terrier at a public festival on Saturday.

According to WLS-TV, Officer Flora Ryan lost control of her K-9 partner Nyx, who then attacked a couple’s dog as they were leaving the festival.

The terrier eventually died of internal injuries.

“If I’m going to post all our successes, true transparency also involves those times we fail as well. Our sincerest condolences go out to the Mavrovic family!” Portage Police Chief Troy Williams said in a Facebook post. “A very sad and unfortunate accident.”
