An unknown man rescued a Cook County Sheriff’s Deputy from her burning patrol vehicle early Thursday. The officer had been trapped in her squad car following a collision with another vehicle, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The officer was on her way to a domestic-related call at the time, but it’s unclear how the accident occurred or why the vehicle caught fire, the report said.

A man then stopped and pulled the officer from the burning vehicle, but he quickly left the scene and police were unable to get his name or any other information about him.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for her injuries, which are not life-threatening.
