Arizona — State troopers frequently conduct complex investigations which lead to charging a suspect driver with aggravated assault, endangerment, DUI and vehicular homicide. Those investigations typically involve vehicles containing electronic evidence within their Event Data Recorder (EDR), requiring the use of a Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) system to capture it. Evidence obtained from the EDR can be used as probable cause for criminal charging related to vehicle speed and reckless driving. The same data aids with verification of witness statements and collision reconstruction.
A CDR system available to enhance collision investigation capabilities of troopers and provide support throughout northern Arizona will soon become a reality, thanks to $23,505 in grant funding from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
