Tucson, Arizona— On Saturday, September 28, 2019, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in coordination with Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) arrested former AZDPS employee Rene Algara, as a result of an FBI criminal investigation. Previous to his arrest by the FBI, Algara was terminated by the Department. Â
Algara was arrested on 21 felony charges related to money laundering and five felony charges related to falsifying government documents. Â
Algara began his employment with AZDPS on February 20, 2016, and was assigned to the Highway Patrol Division, Cochise County. Â
This remains an active FBI investigation and all questions related to the criminal investigation are to be directed to the FBI.Â
