This December, a new group of outstanding leaders from DPS graduated the Leaders in Training (LIT) course. These diverse men and women truly represented all of DPS, coming from all parts of the state, different bureaus and divisions, different backgrounds and filled with a variety of interests and hobbies. Through the diversity, there was one commonality:  a desire to lead by serving the agency we work for, the people we work with, and the communities we work in. These 19 men and women quickly became known as the Magnificent 7.

LIT 7 Class

The Department’s vision statement reads, “To be the national model in providing customer-oriented state-level enforcement services”. Every LIT class is required to complete a class service project that serves the community. Previous classes have served organizations within the Phoenix area, the Magnificent 7 took on a greater challenge and worked with Casa De Los Niños, serving the Tuscon community.

LIT 7 Casa De Los Ninos

Before the holiday season, donation boxes were placed around DPS buildings to collect toiletries, clothing, toys and educational items for children in Tuscon. Thanks to the generous DPS employees who donated, the Magnificent 7 were able to give an astonishing amount of goods to Casa De Los Niños, who provides to less fortunate families with children ranging from infant to 17 years old.

The students of LIT 7 would like to thank all the instructors, their supervisors and the command staff of DPS for nurturing an organizational culture that actively works to grow leaders in its sworn and professional staff.

Thank you to Amanda Mozilo, a LIT 7 graduate, for contributing to this story.
