Since the first of the year there have been 173 Police Officers killed in the line of duty nationally. Twelve Officers have died since the last meeting.
Two were killed by gunfire
Four were killed in automobile collisions
Three were killed after being struck by other Police vehicles
One was killed due to a heart attack
One was killed due to a fall
One died from 3 different forms of aggressive non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma as a result from working at ground zero 9/11
Three were from Municipal Agencies
Seven were from County Agencies
Two were from State agencies (California Highway Patrol & Alabama Department of Corrections).

LEGAL REPORT:
Greg Robinson reported on the following matters:
1)Â Informed the Board on possible Tax credit for Schools, before the end of the year.
2)Â Gave an update on the increase in insurance for the Forest Lake property & buildings.
3)Â Will be looking at obtaining an AG opinion on changing the raffle allowing cash prizes.
4)Â Reviewed financial statement with our accountants.
LEGISLATIVE REPORT:
Nicole LaSavic reported on the following pending bills:
1)Â Redaction/RICO looking for sponsor
2)Â Rep. Kavanagh has drafted a bill on Photo Radar; we are waiting to see the language for possible changes.
3)Â Rep. McClure has drafted a bill for CORP
4)Â Rep. Andy Thompson has drafted a bill on the Vehicle Registration requirements.
5)Â Still looking a possible bill sponsor for Retire Health Care.
6)Â On Pay Parity increase, looking at protecting the plan we have now, due to the budget forecast.
7)Â Looking at adding Civilian Pay Parity, if a sponsor can be found.
8)Â Merit System board increase from 3 to 5 members, going to the Governor, along with sunset clause to 7 years.
RAFFLE REPORT:
Colleen Girard reported there were 2893 tickets sold for this year’s raffle. Winners have been posted on the website & EMS.
DISTRICT REP REPORTS:
District 8 – Kevin McNichols
1)Â Christmas teddy bears were distributed at the Tucson hospitals, with Quentin Mehr coordinating the event. Total of 200 bears given out.
2) Contacted by a member in regards to the cabin in Forest Lakes. Would like to have a local phone book and emergency numbers posted. Also requested a snow shovel or other snow removal equipment.
Northern/Western Air Rescue – Pete Sadler
1) Conducted the Christmas bear program at the Flagstaff Medical Center on December 13th. Lt. Bernie Gzadzik, Becky Smith, K-9 Officer Mace Craft & Gabby, K-9 Officer Kenny Carlson & Belle, assisted in handling out 35 bears.

2) Officer/Paramedic Dave Garrison #1536 has agreed to replace Pete as the rep due to Pete’s retirement next week.
Metro-East – Bill Rogers
1)Â Reported on the pursuit involving DPS where the bank robber crossed into the opposite traffic lane and collided head-on with another vehicle, killing both drivers involved.
District 4 – John Smith
1) John stated that due to his transfer to District 16, there will be an election held for the new rep. John was appointed as the D-16 rep by President Chavez after motion made to seat him by Celina Murrieta-Gonzales, 2nd by Mark Haughey.
Civilian Southern Zone – Celina Murrieta-Gonzales
1)Â Contacted by District 8 personnel inquiring about the election results for their rep.
2)Â Reviewed an article from a CI Officer for the AHPA magazine, and forwarded it to Vicki Williams.
3) Debriefed the 2007 John Walker Rodeo, 2008 will be the 40th Annual. Planning will start after the new year.
RODEO REPORT:
Kevin McNichols reported that for next year’s rodeo they are looking for more support, would like to challenge members to get involved. Would also like to have our members help find sponsors.
PRESIDENT JIMMY CHAVEZ:
President Chavez addressed the Board on the Strategic Plan, and our progress on each topic.
Dave Schroder is in the process of developing a form to assist in the tracking of our progress on the plan
GUEST SPEAKER – ANDY SWANN
Mr. Swann advised the Board that he is running for the House of Representatives, District 20, and would like our endorsement.
MERCHANDISE REPORT:
Tim Kvochick reported to the Board on several price reductions:
1)Â All sweatshirts reduced to $15.00
2) Men’s green & white polo shirts reduced to $15.00
3) Women’s yellow & black polo shirts reduced to $15.00
4)Â All watches reduced by $5.00
There are new leather wallets, price is $40.00

OLD BUSINESS:
Dave Schroder advised the Board that he has the Association challenge coins in for the reps to take back. Each coin is $8.00
Dave also advised that he has the Memorial coins, but they will not be available until the Officer Memorial ceremony in May. There were only 1000 coins ordered. Dave advised that anyone interested can stop by his office to take a look. Each coin is $10.00
NEW BUSINESS:
President Chavez took a moment to thank Pete Sadler for his years of service to the Association.
John Eccles made a motion to endorse Andy Swann running for House of Representatives, 2nd by Robby Craig. Motion Passed.
Dave Schroder advised the Board that he will be developing a form to monitor our progress on the Strategic plan.
REQUEST FOR FUNDING:
Robby Craig made a motion to fund Ashley Bean $500.00. Miss Bean has been chosen to represent the United States as a Student Ambassador with the People to People program. They will be touring England, France, and Italy for 20 days. Motion seconded by Mark Haughey. Motion Passed
President Chavez advised the Board of a request from Sgt. Mike Lehart to fund $500.00 towards buckles for the LERA finals being held in Las Vegas. Motion made by Celina Murrieta-Gonzales, 2nd by Becky Smith. Motion Passed.
COMMITTEE BREAK-OUT:
Membership – Looking at brochure or handbook for membership
benefits.
Website – Working on website improvements
Awards – Looking into requirements for the Mary Bowman award.

Next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 16th 2008 at the MTBA building located at 3401 East Elwood (East of University Drive, North of I-10). Meeting will start at 0900 hours.
