CLEVELAND — A Cleveland police officer is in critical condition after collapsing during training.
Police said Officer Vu Nguyen collapsed Monday during training for officers who handle drug-sniffing K-9s and remains at a hospital Friday, WOIO reported. The officer collapsed due to the extreme heat, according to WKYC.
“Patrol Officer Vu Nguyen remains on life support and has been transferred to the Cleveland Clinic. The family is requesting privacy during this difficult time,” the department said.
Nguyen is a 20-year veteran of the department and achieved recognition in 2015 for saving a girl’s life after she suffered a seizure.
Additional details were not immediately released.
