West Memphis, AR, police have dropped charges against a man who was originally arrested in connection to the death of an off-duty Forrest City, AR, police officer.

A couple hours after naming a suspect in the case, authorities say charges were dropped against 19-year-old Bobby Patterson after police verified his alibi that was not known prior to his arrest, reports KATV.

The search now continues for the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting and killing of Officer Oliver Johnson.

Authorities say Johnson was inside his residence at Meadows Apartments when a stray bullet fired outside entered his home and hit him. Police say Johnson was not the intended target.
