The members were part of a volunteer group on its way to a training session and stopped to assist the crash on their route. While at the scene, a vehicle plowed into them, killing one and injuring two others.

“When the call comes in, they drop everything to rescue people in the back country,” Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Buschow said.

One injured member is in critical condition and the third suffered minor injuries.

Seven other people were involved in the crash with unknown conditions, ABC 7 reports.

The volunteer team member was part of a group on its way to a training session at Mount Pinos, above Frazier Park in Kern County, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Buschow.
