On July 30th, AZTroopers participated in a back to school event in Tucson that has been going on for three years. ThisĀ was their third and largest event. Trooper Bennett andĀ Katherine Ortiz have assisted the last two years.
They passed out free backpacks and school supplies. Local barbers offered free hair cuts for the children before returning to school.Ā The eventĀ was geared to families who are less fortunate. During the event there was free food for the families,Ā jumping castles for the kids and free raffles for other back to school related items. This year over 500 backpacks were passed out.
Trooper Bennett, Trooper Diaz, and Katherine Ortiz took badges to pass out to the families.Ā The eventĀ was a great success. AZTroopers provided teddy bears and badge stickers, and the new silver and black painted vehicleĀ was a big hit with the children. Trooper Bennett sees this event as a way to give back to the community he protects and serves.
With all the bad press LEO’s have received lately, it was a treat to see hundreds of kids so excited to see a “State Trooper” and his vehicle.
