Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Provides Grant to DPS

Phoenix, Arizona — Computer aided dispatch (CAD) is the virtual life-line for law enforcement officers at the hands of dispatchers. Thanks to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), the Arizona Department of Public Safety will be able to replace its aging CAD system with new, Spillman state of the art technology, enabling the agency to interface with other state agencies, specifically the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

 

Right now, the CAD system does not interface with the agency’s records management system or any other agency. It is imperative for police agencies to have reliable, responsive CAD software to provide first responders, troopers, detectives and other DPS employees, with critical information when they are responding to calls for service.

 

ADOT resources could be dispatched from DPS dispatch centers when necessary to promote highway safety and to protect the citizens of Arizona. The Spillman CAD system will allow DPS to have data sharing capabilities with other Spillman CAD user groups throughout the state. This will allow governmental partners to better work as a team.

 

“Our DPS State Troopers must have a dispatch system that brings our partner agencies the information, while allowing the department to collect as much data as possible,” said GOHS Director Alberto Gutier.

 

AZDPS Assistant Director Lt. Col. Chung said, “It is essential that dispatchers have quick access to critical information to keep law enforcement personnel safe. Our dispatchers are looking forward to updating the antiquated CAD system which will streamline their workload and allow them to better support our people.”
