On the night of July 26th, Trooper Tyler Edenhofer set out for his final shift of Field Training. While patrolling the freeways in the Metro Phoenix area, Trooper Edenhofer began hearing radio communication regarding a subject throwing rocks and debris at passing motorists. Trooper Edenhofer responded to the scene, alongside his Field Training Officer and another trooper. An altercation ensued with the subject, lasting roughly eight minutes. During the altercation, the subject was able to obtain a service weapon from one of the troopers and opened fire, killing Trooper Edenhofer and wounding another trooper. Trooper Edenhofer was a Navy Veteran.
