FALMOUTH, Mass. ā€” Three arrests have been made in connection to the shootout that left two Falmouth police officers and a 21-year-old suspect injured.

Police arrested 21-year-old Malik Antonio Koval, the main suspect who allegedly shot Falmouth Police Officers Donald DeMiranda and Ryan Moore on Friday afternoon.

Police have also arrested Kimberly Koval, 38, and Marcus Maseda, 18, who allegedly interfered with the officers’ work following the main suspect. Kimberly Koval and Maseda were charged with the obstruction of justice, interfering with the duties of a police officer and assault and battery on a police officer.

A statement by the office of the Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe described details of the shootout, and said that Officers DeMiranda and Moore are both in good condition following the exchange of gunfire around 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

DeMiranda and Moore were first called to Seacoast Shores Boulevard in East Falmouth Friday afternoon, around 5:30 p..m, after receiving a disturbance call. They encountered Malik Koval, who was allegedly smashing bottles in the street.

Authorities said that when the police officers tried to engage Koval, the suspect became “agitated” and ran into a home at 2 Ashley Drive.

Once inside the home, the D.A.’s office said Maseda and Kimberly Koval attempted to interfere with the police officers’ efforts to follow Malik Koval into the home. Investigators then said Koval “produced a gun and began shooting at the officers.”

Shots struck Moore in the neck, causing a grazing wound, and DeMiranda in the chest and shoulder. DeMiranda was wearing a bulletproof vest that protected his chest, according to authorities.

Falmouth Police Chief Edward Dunne told reporters Saturday afternoon that a third officer also hurt his hip while climbing a fence.

“Police returned fire striking Koval several times,” the D.A.’s office reported. Koval was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for his gunshot wounds. He remains in stable condition there, guarded by police.

Both Falmouth officers were transported to local hospitals following the shootout. Moore has been treated and released, and DeMiranda remains in good condition at a local hospital.

The incident remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s office.
