Two Bremerton, WA, officers were shot and a 53-year-old suspect was killed early Sunday after officers contacted him about a domestic violence protection order.

Preliminary information indicates that the incident started when officers attempted to contact a man at 1:16 AM in a parking lot in Lions Park.  The suspect was in an SUV and was believed to have violated the court-issued domestic violence protection order.

Initial reports are that the man immediately began firing numerous shots directly at both officers.  One officer was struck with at least two rounds in the abdomen and the other officer was struck in the waist.  Officers returned fire and the suspect was killed.

Both officers were taken to the hospital. Their condition has not been released, KIRO TV reports.
