Grand Avenue. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Trooper Cosme Ibarra #5555 at (520) 313-7116. \n\nSgt. Tapia was shot on Monday\, Jan. 6\, 1991 by an 18-year-old drug runner whom Tapia had pulled over on N. Grand Avenue while working on a surveillance operation as head of the Santa Cruz County Attorney’s Metro Task Force. He suspected the car was loaded with marijuana and ordered the driver\, Noel Bernal Gonzalez\, to get out of the car and open the trunk. \n\n\nBernal fumbled with the keys and struggled to open the trunk. Suddenly he bolted\, turned around and fired an unknown amount of shots from a pistol he pulled from his waistband\, striking Tapia in the abdomen and arm. Another officer who had responded to the call shot and killed Bernal. \n\n\nTapia\, the father of three young children\, died in surgery at a Tucson hospital at 1:45 a.m. the next morning. \n\n\nBorn in Agua Prieta\, Sonora\, Tapia grew up in the Bowie\, Ariz. area. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam\, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He joined DPS in 1973 and in 1984 earned his sergeant stripes. He also earned the respect and admiration of others in and outside law enforcement\, as evidenced by the throngs of lawmen\, family\, friends and dignitaries who attended his funeral in Tucson. The convoy from Nogales alone comprised 30 vehicles. \n\nAt the time of the shooting Tapia lived in Tumacacori. The American Youth Soccer Organization and Little League coach had built up a reputation as the cog for mutual cooperation and collaboration among area law enforcement agencies at the local\, state and federal level. The job at Metro positioned him to exploit his skill as a consensus builder. \n\n\nRudy Camacho\, who was director of inspections and control for U.S. Customs\, said upon Tapia’s death\, “He was a bonding-type of person. Unlike bureaucrats\, when Manny told you he would work with your agency\, he would follow through. If Manny said so\, it was good as done. It wasn’t just a lot of lip service. He was able to bring people together\, agency to agency.” \nClick here to view Sgt Tapia’s memorial page…

At our tournament\, we honor each and every fallen officer through the dedication of a corporate hole sponsor in their memory. AZTroopers works throughout the state supporting and promoting safety programs and charitable events such as the Law Enforcement Memorial Program\, MADD\, Concerns of Police Survivors\, Special Olympics and Seat Belt Safety programs. The AZTroopers Memorial Golf Classic also awards annual college scholarships in honor of our fallen officers. We provide support to many public safety programs throughout Arizona and take pride in our representation at memorial services in honor of law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.\nThe tournament is a four-person scramble event. There will be three flights and handicaps will only be used to determine which flight your team will play in. Players without an established handicap will estimate what they normally score\, so be honest. This is for fun. Prizes are awarded to the top three teams in each flight.\nAdditional luncheon tickets may be purchased for $35 per person. Reservations are required for additional luncheon guests. We will not be able to hold any reservations without payment.\nDownload the event flyer here… \n\n If you can’t play in the tournament or sponsor the event then please take a moment to make a donation to AZTrooper charities and help us bring help to the families that need it by clicking here. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n <script src="https://fast.wistia.com/embed/medias/cb82zhw3yq.jsonp" async></script><script src="https://fast.wistia.com/assets/external/E-v1.js" async></script><div class="wistia_responsive_padding" style="padding:56.25% 0 0 0;position:relative;"><div class="wistia_responsive_wrapper" style="height:100%;left:0;position:absolute;top:0;width:100%;"><div class="wistia_embed wistia_async_cb82zhw3yq videoFoam=true" style="height:100%;width:100%"> </div></div></div>\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n <script src="https://fast.wistia.com/embed/medias/00dwy6obr2.jsonp" async></script><script src="https://fast.wistia.com/assets/external/E-v1.js" async></script><div class="wistia_responsive_padding" style="padding:56.25% 0 0 0;position:relative;"><div class="wistia_responsive_wrapper" style="height:100%;left:0;position:absolute;top:0;width:100%;"><div class="wistia_embed wistia_async_00dwy6obr2 videoFoam=true" style="height:100%;width:100%"> </div></div></div>\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n We’ve added special Memorial Golf Classic Merchandise for purchase!\nClick the products below\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n	\nGolf Classic – Bubble-free stickers\n	$3.50 – $4.00Price range: $3.50 through $4.00\n\n\n	\n\n	\nGolf Classic – Embroidered Champion Packable Jacket\n	$52.95\n\n\n	\n\n	\nGolf Classic – Mug with Color Inside\n	$13.95\n\n\n	\n\n	\nGolf Classic – Visor\n	$28.95\n\n\n	\n\n	\nMen’s Premium Polo – Golf CLassic\n	$28.50\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUBSCRIBE NOW! SUMMARY:2018 Southwest Police Motorcycle Training and Competition
DESCRIPTION:The Southwest Police Motorcycle Training and Competition is a threefold event that consists of motorcycle training\, skills competition\, and community engagement through support of Special Olympics. In 1997 SPMTC started with approximately 35 participants from about 7 police agencies. Since then\, this event has grown to have 130 motor officers competing from 25 different agencies and the location rotates between Phoenix\, Tucson\, and Las Vegas. In addition to participants\, many vendors and spectators come together to enjoy the event and support participating law enforcement. To learn how to get involved\, visit https://www.phoenix.gov/police/SPMTC  \nThis event is open to the public to come and see us compete!\nDownload the flyer here…   and see the schedule of events here… \nIf you are an officer wanting to compete and attend the training please see additional info below: \nThe Phoenix Police Department Traffic Bureau and Valley Law Enforcement Agencies is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the 22nd Annual Southwest Police Motorcycle Training and Competition. SPMTC 2018 is scheduled for April 13 and 14\, 2018. This dynamic training and friendly competition is open to all currently certified motorcycle officers. The host hotel for this year’s event will be the Sheraton Crescent Hotel located at 2620 West Dunlap Avenue in Phoenix. The Sheraton Crescent has provided our guests with the discounted room rate of $130 per night (including full hot buffet breakfast) or $119 per night (excluding breakfast)\, plus tax. There is a March 11\, 2018 deadline for hotel reservations to receive this discount. Click on the hotel information link below for reservation information. \nThe Southwest Police Motorcycle Training and Competition is an excellent opportunity to provide motorcycle officers with the most current training techniques. This two day event includes a skills course with a variety of exercises\, two man pair riding\, four man team riding\, as well as a slow ride competition. Each of these exercises is designed to enhance the ability of the modern day Motorcycle Officer. \nSPMTC 2018 will be open to the first 130 officers on a first come\, first serve basis. The entry fee is $75 per rider\, which includes two days of training\, a 22nd anniversary SPMTC shirt\, one ticket to the awards banquet on Saturday night and a gift bag. Past events have drawn motor officers from across the U.S.\, Canada and Mexico\, so get your application in early. \nAs always\, proceeds raised from SPMTC go to the athletes of Special Olympics Arizona through the Law Enforcement Torch Run. This is an excellent opportunity for all of us to give back to the community we serve. Without our help these Special Olympians would not have the opportunity to participate in organized sports. As in past events\, the awards banquet will feature a silent auction to assist with this worthy cause\, so bring your checkbooks. Additional tickets to the awards banquet may be purchased for $35.00 each\, but those tickets are limited. \nThank you for supporting SPMTC 2018 and we hope to see you in April! \nTo participate\, please click on the links below to fill out the attached Entry / Bio form and Waiver form\, and send them\, along with your payment\, to: \nOfficer Anthony Konesky\, Chairman\nPhoenix Police Department\n302 E.
